If your PC is good for games depends upon the type of games you want to play

For newer games such as F.E.A.R., Oblivion, EQ2, you will want you system specs to be a MINIMUM of a 2gig(or amd equivalent) processor-(NOTE:not celeron or sempron, the numbers and power in those procs just aren't the same as a P4 or Athlon even if the speed looks the same, I can't tell you what you would need if you have one of those procs, as I don't use them, but the 2ghz minimum wouldn't hold as clearly true)- a Ge-force 6600 or greater video card (128MB on board ram minimum, 256 is better if your other specs are at the minimum) - and 1GB system ram with a hard drive of no less than 30 or 40 gigs (that is pretty small, but workable)

The above will not run the games flawlessly, but they will be nicely functional, if you do not have at least the above, you will be facing some very noticeable challenges in modern true 3d gaming.

Now if you have games that don't have huge video demands (ie WoW, Guild Wars etc) you can scale the above recommendations back a bit. I do not, however, recommend going below 128 MB video board ram-but system ram in some cases you can still get away with 512MB.

If you want better performance, aim for 2GB system ram (that is pretty much the sweet spot at the moment for return on investment for performance increase), a 256MB or higher video card (ge-force 6800 or equivalent or better), PCI sound (less demand on your CPU is always better, so nix the on-board sound), and a 3GHz or amd equivalent processor.

It most likely is if it was the most expensive one you could get -without monitor, printer etc.-
There are some built specifically for gamers and those will have some gamers award stickers in the products advertising.

if you want to make sure, then grab a relatively new game (F.E.A.R, Doom3, Qake4, True Crime NY...) and check if the recommended system requirements for the game meet with your system.

You compare your machine's specs with the recommendations of the game(s) you want - NOT the requirements, but the recommendations. If your comp meets or exceeds the recommendations, you've got a good comp for games.
