No, that's silly. People should get promoted because they do an excellent job and are responsible, not because some superficial person decided that they're pleasant to look at.

Of course not. They should be promoted b/c they have the ability to do the job properly But, that happens with men as well. They had a study on 20/20 a while back. Those that were pretty got the job, even though the one that was not as good looking was WAY more qualified!
Plus, elementary school students thought that the prettier teacher was the nicer one. The ugly teacher was thought of as mean.
Unfortunately, pretty people can move up the ladder of success, while others are not fortunate enough to have been given those genes and must try and use smarts/personality to get that job or that guy/gal.
But hell, if they give a mean BJ, why not get promoted, they earned it!!!!! LOL J/K!

Should they? Well, that depends on the functionality of the job itself. I am a computer programmer and I get promoted because I have shown how well (or at least better than the others) I can program. Based on this logic, if being pretty is part of the job, it only makes sense if one is promoted because one is prettier than the others. If I were a computer programmer, I don't expect and I don't want to be promoted because I am pretty. Likewise, if I were in a field where being pretty is a job, I don't expect and I don't want to be promoted because I can program well.

I know smart people who have a terrible work ethic, I know hard workers that are stupid as the day is long. Almost every one of us knows someone at work that we are/ or could be better than who has a better position than us. There are a million bad reasons including longevity why people have positions they dont deserve and while its not right Prettiness shouldn't be judged any differently than any of the other bad reasons. (unless you're the ugly girl who just got passed up for a promotion) in that case we will call it 'Good Gene Affirmative Action' GGAA for short

It depends of the job. If two women have equal capacities for the job, but one of them is more attractive than the other, and the job in question is the kind that requires outstanding appearance, then yes, it would be fair to promote the more attractive.
But in general, it's a superficial and stupid thing to do.

No they shouldn't but some very bright women happen to be pretty. How do you decide that they are using their looks? And what about a man, who is good looking, dresses like a GQ model, and flatters and follows his boss. Should that get him promoted? It does work both ways.

Of course they do it anyways. We as humans recognize each other by our face, so yes the pretty ones always get preferential treatment.
So promotion for being pretty, I don't know if that happens as much as people think. But getting hired for being pretty, that one happens a lot.
Cheers

The question is not "should" but "why". It is happening all of the times. In USA we discriminate against race, height, wight, beauty, national origin, family relations, and so on. As a nation we LOVE to discriminate.

no, its just like sleepingw/ the boss to get ahead, or someone who brownnoses. It shoukld go by merit, longevity at a job, how capable you are. But sadly, it doesn't go that way

That is called "selling yourself". It is also called "demeaning yourself". Any woman who wants to trade solely on her looks (unless she is a model) should be booted out on the street since she clearly doesnt' have a grasp of reality. In answer to your question, no but that doesnt' mean it doesnt' happen.
