If anything, Steve Smith will open up the field for Keyshawn Johnson. Keyshawn is a possession receiver, a big target with good hands who can make plays over the middle. Steve Smith is the best deep-ball threat in the game. With Smith drawing safeties into double-coverage and out of the middle of the field, Keyshawn will have more room to work underneath. The Arizona Cardinals do something similar with Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin.

Keyshaun will help to roll coverages to a more balanced look. With no one on the other side, teams would use 4 or 5 out of 7, defending the pass, on the side with Smith. With Johnson teams will have to balance it a little more, or he will catch a lot of balls and get YAC yards. He's not a deep threat, never has been. But he gets open and catches the ball.
What they're really looking for is for him to be a slightly slower version of Mushin Muhammed (sp?) when they went the Super Bowl in 03-04

I don't understand the hype around him also. He's just an old possession reciever who's greatest asset is going across the middle for a reception.
In case you didn't notice last season, Steve Smith picked apart offense in at times, triple coverage. Dale Carter is more of a threat at this point than Keyshawn mainly because of his speed. Jake Delhomme also usually keys in one WR each season, with Smith and Moose.

He will be good, not because HE draws coverage, but because STEVE SMITH draws coverage and will open up the field for Keyshaun, who should do rather good in single coverage. Panthers would be the best in the NFC with or without Keyshaun simply with Jenkins returning on defense.

Keyshawn doesn't need to go long...Carolina has Smith for that. Keyshawn is going to block for running backs, make the physical inside catches, and take pressure off of Smith. With Keary Colbert healthy this season as well, he too will take some pressure off of both of them. He had a great rookie season but played injured for much of the 2005 season. Expect him to help out a lot.
