Tons are weight, a yard is a cubic measurement of 1 yard or 36"
A landscaper when ordering something would have to determine how many yards of a product he would need and then the supplier must determine the weight of the product.

you are using different units ,but dirt,rock, and concrete used to be hauled as yards, you got a 7 yard load or a 10 yard ect.,,,,,now with the D O T everything has to be loaded in pounds,,2000 making a ton

historically if you were getting sand ,rock,,or dirt you could figure 1 ton equals 1 yard and be pretty safe

As far as I remember from my lumber yard days, two yards of sand is one ton, therefore there are eight yards in four tons.

BUT FOR GODS SAKE CHECK BEFORE YOU BUY.....
