What bank you have? mine would issue it as fraud twelve times over for even 3 bucks. Report them again to a different station, cop, person etc. List your ss under flag alert with the cbrs. ie experian, trans union and equifax. Every time your ss is used it will be flagged. Get a new social or find out which would be less of a hassle either way whatever social should be flagged! As for the people, I know it's hard let them be! My ex screwed me over and trust me I paid the mess and moved on he is still STUCK!. Email me if you like also I worked under collections and credit repair for a few years. Good luck it's a hard road :-)

I had an identity theft a few years ago. I called a lawyer, he told me to make a police report, and then as it was over a certain amount, and considered a felony, go to the state's attorney with all pertinent paperwork, and file a report there. You should not be liable for what was stolen. Get copies of your reports showing the ID theft, and take it to your bank. If you think that you may know who did it, you tell the state's attorney who is assigned to your case. let them investigate it.

Surely you filed a police report. Take this information (listing the stolen checkbook) to your bank. You should not be responsible. The checks should be returned as forgeries (you may have to fill out paperwork citing each check as fraudulent) and the people/businesses who took them would be held responsbile. This is the inherent risk in taking a check!

But by all means, sit down with someone at your bank and get them to help you through this. Good luck!

Talk to your bank. I find it hard to believe that your bank thinks that they have no responsibility in this. They are supposed to ensure that a check is signed by an authorized individual. If a check has been forged I don't see how that is your responsibility. You did report the stolen check book promptly, didn't you?

If you have evidence of who did this, talk to the police again. And again. Until one of them says, oh, yeah, that is our job.

Also, check with your insurance company. See what they may cover.
