That's actually quite an interesting question. The gods of the body - the Pagan gods - have been vilified by Christianity. The Christian God - or rather, those who speak in his name - wants you to neglect your body, wants "only the soul!"... Whereas the Pagan gods want you to enhance your body, and dismiss as a weak fiction the notion of a "soul"...

God promises eternal salvation - what did the Devil ever do for anyone? As far as people go, we're generally not any more or less evil than anyone else. Don't forget murders, rapist, etc always believe they are in the right at the time.

God doesn't want your body. The devil doesn't want your soul. Terms for the ways we **** ourselves over. No reason to blame it on externals.
