The Upgrade will be about $100.
But if you're using a system that had Windows 98, you would need some hardware upgrades too. More disk space, more ram, and a faster processor.

You're better off just buying a cheap new computer that will already have Windows XP on it. You can get them for as little as 200-300$

If you bought your computer that originally ran Windows 98, you are much better off simply buying a new computer. The very cheapest computer available today will still be many, many, many times better than your Windows 98 computer; will cost about $450; and will come with Windows XP.

An upgrade alone: (a) likely will barely run on your computer; (b) will cost about $130.

Buy a Windows XP CD. Insert it in your CD Drive(in Windows 98) and select install. You will eventually see the option to upgrade your system. That way, your OS will be upgraded, but you wont lose your files and settings.

YOu need to buy the Windows XP upgrade. However, IF your computer came with Windows 98 it's most likely it does NOT meet the MIMIMUM REQUIREMENTS for XP. Even if it does, it will run much slower than your 98.

Windows XP upgrade would be the least expensive choice, but a full version would work the best.

I purchased a full copy of Windows XP Home on eBay for under $100.00 and it worked fine.
