What type of maintenance should i do on my car to make it last forever?

I have a 2003 mini cooper and it has 82,000 miles on it. I know every 3,000 miles or 3 months you are supposed to get an oil change. But what else am i supposed to do to keep my car in top notch condition?

Get an old diesel Merc. The show Fifth Gear cannon blasted it, set a dynamite in it, and had it run over by one of those big foot trucks show how well those old cars are built. Shockly, the car still worked with minimal body damage afterwards. Plus they can run on vegatable oil instead of diesel. You definitely save at the pump.

Or ditch the Euro car and get Japanese. Get an older Honda when they were still all made in Japan. I forget what year Accord this one guy had, but he accomplished 1 million miles on his Accord, then Honda gave him a new Accord.

And changing your oil every 3,000 seems too often for a euro car. All euro cars should be around 10,000 miles.

Every car that is sold these days have a service manual with it.
As long as you read it carefully and follow all the routine stuff it says.And if you must change any parts i say go for the good stuff either from factory or a high quality aftermarket pieces never go for the cheap stuff because you`ll only end up fixing it again or have the cheap piece cause more problems.Other than that just pay attention to your car you`ll know when something is wrong!

A car cannot last forever, since it is made out of parts that have a determined lasting time. With use and normal tear and wear those parts need to be replaced. You can keep your car very nice and take care of it, but in the long run, when those parts start to brake, you will spend more money than getting a brand new car.
I try to fix everything that breaks in my car as soon as I can, that way it looks nice longer.

First, you'll want the right car. You should get a Subaru that has lifetime corrosion free warrantee and all aluminum block (well, it has cast iron cylinder sleeves). Have the timing belt changed every 60K, fuel filter and the ATF and filter replaced every 60K....and regular maint. on the air filter and oil changes. Take out the spark plugs every 30K and clean them. That should keep your car running for quite a long time. Good luck.

the biggest mistake people make mis not changing oil. change oil every 3 months or 3000 miles. don't neglect other fluids or filters ie; air, oil, fuel,pcv valve, trans filter and fluid(every 20,000 miles)engine coolant(every 20,000 miles), a/c system inspected every other year(and recharged if necessary). get tire rotated, shocks checked or changed if necessary(will shorten life of tires if bad), brakes. if your vehicle exhibits strange sounds and/or vibrations don't ignore, get checked soon as possible. if check engine light comes on it usually means something serious. if you follow these simple guides your car will last a long, long time.

get your fluids change regularly like the transmission fluid ,brake fluid ,get the filters checked through out the car make sure that all lights are working ,and every three months get oil changed, or every 3,000 miles.

first of all, cars don't last forever.
look at owners manual? scheduled maint. should be inside frnt. cover.
I use synthetic oil in my truck and car, doesn't break down as fast, can usually go about 6-7,000 mi's btwn. changes, costs more, but lasts longer.
flush radiator about every 2 yrs, dep. on where/live, ck. belts and hoses for worn/leaks ect.
tires! need new 1's? alignment? inflation? basic stuff.

Get the manufacture recommended service when scheduled. Things like transmission fluid change, radiator coolant change, a/c checked and recharged, brakes maintained, hoses and belts checked and replaced, etc

keep the right type of oil in it, also a clean air filter and a good fuel filter and oil filter. Keep good and plenty of coolant in it, keep mechanical parts clean and watch out for anything that may become a problem in the future.
