Apparently a tightly bound ball of straw is the method.......... just throw it in and the weed attaches itself to it..........

Good advice pull it out by hand, but mind the pond life that clings to it; lay the blanket weed on the side of them pond so that any pond life can find it's way back to the water. Another tip try and get the balance of plant life right in your pound as this helps keep pond weed at bay and keeps the water crystal clear. The UV certainly helps but some extra pond start in your pond now will also help.

Ok, for starters you will NEVER rid your pond of blanket weed. It grows 24/7 365 days a year (though nearly comes to a standstilll in the winter). The only thing you can do is clear it by hand. It clings to everything and anything, and so putting straw in will inded rid an area of the stuff, it will still continue to grow everywhere else......
Remember too, that a lot of your pond life depends on blanket weed for shelter and egg laying, so be careful if and when you do remove it.

Hi, Don't waste your money on all these fangled UV lights & remedies they are all a total waste of time, u will never stop it growing, but there is a way u can keep it down, everyone is sayin straw, but they never say what type of straw or how to use it, do they, I have a 3,500 gallon pond with Koi & goldfish, all fish need shelter from the sun & thos horrible birds called Herons, who will eat fish from any unprotected water sauce, anyway I digress, what you need is BARLEY straw from your petshop about 99p a bag, you will also need some old nylon stockings, just one at a time, stuff all the BARLEY straw u can into it without laddering it, putting say half a brick in it first, then tie up the open end with plastic coated garden wire & drop it into your pond under the water outlet from your filter so that it is just below the surface & tie it ot yhe outlet of your filter, so you can remove it when it has depleted & replace it with another, this will keep the algae at bay, it has always worked for me

I would say a combination of all these, would be good, too much weed in the pond as a negative affect, straw is good, uv is good, bio filter helps, practise makes perfect, if it does go too mad then pull it out, i dont think you should have more than one third of your pond covered in weed. All the best

i pull out the worst by hand, then attach a straw ball to the side which you can buy ready made, i then add blanket weed chemicals and it usually clears in about 7-10 days leaving you a clear pond again.

some blanket weed in you pond is good, as it gives the fish something to hide from the sun under plus there are a lot of herings around in the summer and it makes it harder for them to spot your fish and fly down and take them.so don't be to keen on taking it all out.
