I heard once on some news station report that people that stand on corners make tons of money with handouts. That is why I never give any to the guy I see on the same corner everyday when I get off work. I never know what they will do with my hard earned money which I could be using for rent, etc. I don't know why people give their hard earned money like that. I give my 10% to my church and that is it.

There are very few of the ones who stand on the corner with signs that ever have any intention of working. They are only playing on your sympathy to solicit donations so they don't have to work. There are plenty of homeless people out there that really are trying to get back on their feet. One of the biggest problems is in order to get a job, they have to provide their employer with an address and phone number. Most employers will not hire people without a permanent residence. And since it takes money to get a permanent residence, they are caught in this viscious circle. The sad part is, it is difficult to distinguish between the ones who are truly trying to help themselves and the ones who are not. You just have to go with your instincts and ask yourself "What if that were me in that situation?"

You never know who is honest anymore. That is why if they say they want money for food, I just buy them a meal. If they need help, i give them the name of my church and call my pastor.
There are "homeless groups" of people that travel the world raising money this way, and they rent a house and all live there together...then they all leave together...like a traveling carnival and freak show. Some have talents, juggling, singing, guitar, etc...

Homeless people don't work anymore. They don't even attempt to.

They just take advantage of people's kindness and donations and use it to purchase drugs. If they really needed help, they could go to a homeless shelter.
If they refuse to go to the homeless shelter, even when they are desperate, it's usually because they don't allow drugs.

From the ones I have seen, they are filthy, have limbs missing etc and there is no way that any person in their right mind would want them knowing where they work or live, so I think they are just looking for hand outs for alcohol.

I often wonder that same thing....but i have to agree with the first girl, if they want something bad enough I would think they would try really hard to work for it instead of holding a sign. But...I dunno. I think maybe some mean it and some just want money for other things.

I think if they were willing to work for food, they would be working and not standing around holding a damn sign.

My mom's boss had some minor yard work that needed doing so he made an offer to one of those guys, and the guy laughed in his face and cursed him out.
So, at least That guy wasn't willing !!

I have offered them jobs doing yard work and they turn me down. I have 5 acres so it wasn't $10 or $15 .
