I don't think the sentences fit the crime. Why do people get more time for defrauding the electricity company than others do for sexually abusing children? That cannot be right!!!

There are many problems here and few actually have to do with the law so much as the lack of prisons, many judges who have become jaded and just don't care anymore so they hand out all kinds of sentences without listening to the actual case. Other judges who believe the convict is still redeemable and are trying to give him a chance (though sometimes it can work, most times it is inadvisable). And judges who are sometimes just afraid that the convict will come back later and shoot them for their judgements.

More security for judges and more judges available would help some, more jails too. But the essential goal is to limit crime from taking place in the first place, and I'm not sure how to handle that. And the major problem is there are more people like me who don't know then do know, that is why the system is like it is.

The more talk there is of being tougher on criminals the worse thing become for everybody. Think about three time loser laws.
How many shoot out with police have these laws caused. Keep in mind that at sometime in the future criminals will have served their time and have to be integrated back into the community. . Extreme punitive law breed crime. The U.S. already have the greatest percentage of people locked up in the World. Is more going to make America a safer place. It has not worked so far.

working in the criminal justice system (prosecution), I find it very frustrating when I have to contact victims and witness' to inform them of a poor court result.
everyone has an opinion on justice, but its like everything else when defendants come into court, THEIR rights outweigh any victim or witness'.
the 'do gooders' in society see it as a campaign to give perpetrators of crime more rights in humanity than those that suffer at their hands.
we reap what we sow, we gave them an inch, now they own the ruler, a perpetrator invariably is the ultimate victim, it must be true the 'do gooders' tell us so!

arent they due to be changing the laws so some of the more dangerous criminals are not allowed to serve only half their sentence???? damn right too, if you done something wrong and against the law, you should serve your time for it.
