Hi canadian, we some/hopefully most americans try to remain very concervative, that is why we voted to have a conservative replublican as our President, Thanks God for that, so the Dixie Chicks made a coment some years ago about them being disgusted for being Texans, it had something to do with our Comander in Chief so, since our country is ruled by democracy and pride, Thank God again for that, we believe that those girls should be canadians. That is why we are disgusted at them. Oh and one more thing, God bless the USA, our President and our honorable soldiers who are fighting the war against terrorism, and maybe against Canada too one day.

From what I recall, the stupid cows said the wrong thing when the majority of the US nation was still fuming over the 9/11 attacks.... practically saying we should leave those responsible alone when President Bush sent the US Military out to start blowing the cr*p out of them.

If some psychopath killed someone close to you for no reason.... or perhaps dragged you into some bushes at knifepoint, then some idiot started gobbing off about how the person responsible should be left alone when the cops went after them..... wouldn't you be fuming at them?

they made comments a couple years ago that were against toby kieth and against bush. so toby kieth took it up and more or less crucified them and said they were un-american, traitors etc. and seeing as the demographic that listens to country music tend to be a bit more patriotic than others, this was very offensive there for they protested and boycotted the dixie chicks.
in my own opinion, everyone forgot the freedom of speech. and quite frankly i think it was a load of crap that people reacted poorly to them.

While at a press conference before one of their concerts in England, the lead singer, Natalie Maines expressed her personal opinion that she was embarassed to be from the same state as the President, G.W. Bush. We, in the U.S. value our freedom to speak our minds, but occasionally don't like it when our citizens speak their minds in some other country. It's kinda like "airing our dirty laundry", a phrase meaning to let people see our faults, to use the vernacular.

The president's political party has a very hard core of rabid supporters, many of who are very conservative and highly religious and will do or say almost anything in support of him. Including being verbally abusive to anyone who criticizes him, more's the pity. We moderate or independent politically inclined citizens have to tolerate the extremes on both ends of the political spectrum.

It's an unfortunate but necessary part of our Republic's basic Bill of Rights that we have a certain amount of gadflys who will shun, be critical, or abusive at people who are simply expressing a personal opinion. They refuse to agree to disagree, loudly and irritatingly in public forums.

I've always looked at America's First Amendment Right to Free Speech to include the Right to Ignore the Speaker if you disagree with what they have to say.

I believe Ms. Maines was within her rights to say what she said, but just chose an unfortunate place to express that opinion.

Their lead singer, Natalie Maines, made a comment about being ashamed of being from the same state as the President. Many people took it as an insult to the President. I actually like them better for what she said.

Well, I'm English, and the Dixie Chicks are one of the few country bands I can listen to.
I think it MIGHT be that they aren't the stereotypical redneck country act..........haven't they made anti-Dubya comments?
