Try closing it through the Task Manager.
Right click on the bottom taskbar and select TaskManager and close it that way!

You could try uninstalling the version of Internet Explorer that you are using.
You could also try going into the startup menu and disabling it if it's listed there. Just go to start, run, and type in msconfig. that will bring up the startup menu. Click on the startup tab and look for it in there.
It could also be a virus. So try running a scan and see if anything comes up.

Ctrl + Alt + Del...Select Task manager if needed...Otherwise it pops up. Under Applications tab select the IE process and End Task.

click on the button for that window on the task bar. this will give it focus. then press ALT+F4 to close it. If this doesn't do it then all you can do is restart our computer to get rid of it.

Press ctrl-alt-delete and open task manager. Find the window you want to close under applications, click on it, and click end task.

go to control panel
go to add or remove program
then on the left side of the screen click on windows components
uncheck internet explorer
by doing that you won't see ie anymore
