NO Israel is not the aggressor. Lebenon has been rebuilding itself for the last 12 years. You know nothing. It is very modern and civilised. (well not now it isnt, but was)

When did George Bush back the Israelis? What should he do, back Hizbollah?? All that Bush has said is "Israel has a right to defend itself" and it does.

You are obviously in favour of terrorist organisations that have been trying to drive Israelis from their own land. Israel has no land or rights in Lebenon. You must look to SYRIA for that. Syria are the country that tried to take over Lebenon. Hizbollah are backed by the Syrian Government, because the SYRIAN government believes Hizbollah has a just cause, and that it is just to kidnap 2 israeli soldiers and hold them prisoner.

Hizbollah are USING LEBENON to launch attacks & to send suicide bombers into Israeli shopping areas and buses and kill innocent Jews, Christians and Arabs. They have no right to do so. They are Terrorists and part of a greater Jihad. They need to be stopped.

Jesus. Born in Bethlehem. King of the Jews. Always remember that.

I'm surprised, thats really not a badly phrased question. If you want to look at the situation from the perspective of just a couple of weeks, then you would have to say that anti isreal interests brought it on their selves... not a good idea to kidnap a couple of israel soldiers and expect nothing to happen...

... now look at it from a 5 year period, Israel has given in to this very sort of intimidation in the past. Citizens have been kidnapped, and Israel has given in and let prisoners get exchanged for their release..

... you have to wonder if Israel has decided, enough is enough, they have opened a can of woop *** (honest, Im not a yank) to ensure that this latest wee exploit of the islamic terrorists is going to be the last.

... under NO circumstances does this make the Israel goverment right.... they are killing innocent people to make a point.

Man kind is so screwed, the middle east is set upon the destruction of the world for the sake of an area of land no larger than 1/2 Australia

Arabs have attacked Israel since the beginning of Israel - they started two wars before, big time, and lost and they have been committing terrorists acts more or less continuously. They leave out this part when whining about what Israel does.

This time, Hezbollah started in with kidnapping a couple soldiers out of Israeli territory. Israel began retaliations, as it always does - how could this be a surprise? - but their aim is to destroy Hezbollah, and that has surprised Hezbollah.

It has finally dawned on quite a few people, who seem to have been in the dark about it, that the Israeli response is so "out of proportion" to the snatching of a couple soldiers because the aim is larger than the two soldiers.

I feel bad for Lebanon, but it is in Lebanon that Hezbollah exists, with the support of Syria and Iran and others. In a way, Hezbollah is hiding behind or amongst the innocent to avoid retribution and to commit violence.

These Arabs are skilled at depicting themselves as victims and martyrs, while skipping over what they have done to merit such retaliation.

If they would leave off their insistence on destroying Israel, settle down without violence and build up something for themselves and their people, things would be fine.

Israel is the aggressor and they are the reason that these terrorist exist by pushing around these poor Muslim people. These terrorist is a product of Israel own conduct. They think they are a super power and they can do what ever they want just because the US supports them. And not all the US people support Israel. Many Americans like myself can care less about them. It’s because of the Jewish people who have high position in our government and Israel Strategic position in the Middle East that our government cares. Just wait a few generations and the US Govt. will snap out of it and stop sending a big chunk of its citizen’s tax dollars to support them. I frankly don’t like Israel (nothing against Jew’s) but I feel that my country can put all that money to better use.

The USA were instrumental in the recognition of a Jewish state at the UN in 1948,this new state then decided to call its self Israel.Since then the USA has used its veto on behalf of Israel when asked to do so by Israel.Lebanon is seen by Israel as a thorn in her side, the capture of the 2 soldiers was the excuse Israel was waiting for in order to silence an emerging strong neighbour with access to modern weaponry.Yes Israel is the aggressor.

Israel is not the aggressor. Hezbullah, a terrorist organisation sponsored by Syria and Iran, is hiding in Lebanon and attacking Israel from across the border.

Israel is a sovereign state recognised as such by the United Nations and which came into existence in 1948. Prior to that it was known as the British Protectorate of Palestine. On the very day that Israel was formed, it was attacked without warning or provocation by many surrounding arab countries. Then as now, Israel was not the aggressor. Hezbullah is a terrorist organisation, recognised as such by just about everyone, including the Lebanese government who condemn the actions of Hezbullah in this present crisis.

The present crisis started when Hezbullah kidnapped two Israeli soldiers (I say kidnapped because they are not being held in accordance with the Geneva Convention and therefore have not been "captured"). This was followed by unprovoked attacks using rockets fired by Hezbullah from Lebanon at Israeli towns. Thats TOWNS, as in full of innocent people.

As the Lebanese government have consistently demonstrated that they are either too weak or unwilling to deal with terrorists operating from their own territory, Israel had no choice but to act to protect its citizens and attempt to force Hezbullah to return the kidnapped soldiers.

Wherever possible Israel is attempting to target only Hezbullah-related targets (unlike Hezbullah whose unguided rockets are almost guaranteed to hit non-military targets). Unfortunately Hezbullah has adopted the same cowardly posture that many such organisations use - they hide their rockets, headquarters buildings and other infrastructure amongst the civilian population. This use of "human shield" tactics is partly to ensure that there is adverse propaganda when apparently innocent people are hurt.

You are right that this has happened before - some years ago terrorist groups persisted in attacking Israel with rockets from Lebanon and as a consequence Israel invaded Lebanon to deal with these terrorists. It is therefore impossible for Hezbullah to truthfully claim that they did not know what to expect as a result of their actions and all the death and destruction that Lebanon has suffered is a direct result of the cynical actions of Hezbullah.

The Israelis are backed by the US because Israel is attacking a terrorist organisation. It's just a pity that the US doesn't send some aircraft carriers into the region to help the Israelis rid the World from these terrorists once and for all.

This situation is hugely complex and like most conflicts, the roots go back many years. I was talking to a Lebanese person only today, and even he finds it hard to untangle and explain.
You have to do your own reading and research and work out your own opinion as you will hear many differing ones on this site It's not a question that can be answered - with well argued reasons - in the space of one or two lines.

The Israeli army is defending Israel. The FIRST shots were fired by Lebanon.
Understand that.
And for that, Israel will NOT allow the terrorists in Hezbollah to survive. Once this is all over, the world will not only be safer, but fresher smelling too!

Its about Israel loosing all kinds of human morality and not allowing the release of children and women hostages. In response, Hizbollah was able to kidnap two Israeli soldiers, that are killing innocent Arab civilians, so that Hizbollah will be able to make an exchange and free these innocent children.

israel is the terrorist state backed by the hypocrite leaders of the US and UK. this shows how misinformed the people as they think israel is good. they are a zionist state. the media has a lot of bias so dont believe it. go to alternative sources. whenever places like lebanon defend themselves it's terrorism and whenever US does it, it's "self defense". This is sickening.
