Advanturous always looking for things to do so she can writte about them. Live experiences for the moment so she can write about them. Living in a clean spacious place with a library full of all sorts of books. The back yard facing a forest were wild animals would tend to visit from time to time. Once in a while visit crowded cities and stay a hotels for weeks at a time to do some character research. Wonder what the individual writing this answer looks like and wonders if she has ever met the individual, but as a writter will write about him without ever wanting to meet as this will give her the ideas to write her storie.

I'm a writer. I stay home and take care of my three kids. I cook and clean. I have a totally normal life. I write in the evenings when the kids are going to bed.
Sometimes I'm feeling creative, sometimes not. I spend a lot of time at the library and I read A LOT.
Then there are the book signings and interviews (which for a just starting out writer or someone other than Rowling or Stephen King, are really rare.) Those aren't as big a deal as it has been made out to be.
If you are looking to become a writer, go for it!

I imagine the lifestyle of a female writer would include patient friends, a loyal dog, and a comfortable pair of slippers.

That really depends on what she writes, how successful shes been at it, and her work situation. J.K. Rowling is the richest woman in England. On the other hand, Emily Dickinson's writings weren't discovered until after her death. Are you thinking of making a run at it? Just start writing, if for no one else than yourself.
