Recently rented a car on holidays from car rental company. Proceeded from collection point on the 4th floor of carpark out onto a slip road for approx 200 yards.

Smoke billowed out of engine. Had car replaced. Return from holidays to find company had taken €1,200 from my visa account for damage to "clutch system caused by renter"
as opposed to the car being faulty!

I had the car for about 2 mins and I am no novice driver.

Any advice on how i should challenge this payment or my consumer rights would be appreciated.

Read ur contract if its says that its in good cond. then you can can file for a dispute threw ur credit card company. Show them ur contract and they should give u ur money back, But be prepare for that phone call from that company u rented the car from, if they hassel u just go to an arbitrater "there better then lawyers" but beware if you didnt read ur contract ur as good as screwed.

File a "dispute of charges" with your credit card company. They will investigate. Be persistant. Good luck.

credit card companies protect YOU!
talk to them. they're very reasonable people. just do not be silent. that's when they worry.
