depends on ur preferences, and expertise. If u're a newcomer, ubuntu is probably gud for u cause it comes with an easy installer. red hat distributions are probably the most widely used along with suse linux. fedora 3(by redhat) is a gud release, as well as suse 9. If you're someone who wants everything, take debian, it comes in around 10 cds, but will have everything available for free which can be possibly available. take ur pick. there's even a utility called cygwin which runs on windows and gives u a linux interface.

UBuntu, IMO....quick-n-easy install..its kinda fun and the interface (as with other distros too) is marvelous.
