I consider it to be such a blessing and privilege to work with children. I'm just trying to get a good quote to go at the end of my e-mails that summarizes the importance and beauty of teaching. I teach grades five and six. Thanks in advance.

Every other profession is POSSIBLE because of teachers.......

I am a teacher (15 yrs+) and I maintain a website each school year with inspirational quotes:

Perhaps it is the quote that is typically attributed to Emerson, though it's a bit long for an e-mail signature:

To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.

I know wetheteachers.com also has rotating quotes that I like, plus a great way for teachers to connect. Here are some I've seen there:

"The whole art of teaching is only the art of awakening the natural curiosity of young minds..."
-- Anatole France
"Teaching provides a way to stay young at heart, to maintain a lifetime of active learning...it is in every respect a profession of hope."
-- Vito Perrone
"Learning is at its best when it is deadly serious and very playful at the same time."
-- Sarah Lawrence Lightfoot
"No bubble is so iridescent or floats longer than that blown by the successful teacher."
-- William Osler

and my favorite so far...
"Spoon feeding in the long run teaches us nothing but the shape of the spoon."
-- E.M. Forster
