I think part of the solution is not to think about it as a right or wrong choice. What ever you decide to do is never final! Once I learned this I have been a lot happier with my job.
First, figure out what you are good at it and what you are interested in. Whats your best subject at school? Then research jobs that pertain to those areas. Books like, "What colour is your parachute?" are a great help as well. You can also try volunteering at an organization that could use people with skills in the areas you are interested in. ie; writing articles for a newsletter if you like writing, fundrasising if you are interested in sales. What gets your excitement level up?
The fact is, you can always make a change, not saying its akways easy. I started off thinking the hotel/travel industry was for me, but I changed careers after a few years.
Stop thinking of it as being locked into a career for the rest of your life and start thinking that you will do it as long as you enjoy it. Life is too short to be miserable because of a job!

It is really difficult to choose a career without first trying out what is going to be suitable and fits to your taste of interest.
You will find a lot of medical doctors who do not practise medicine, but other trade/line of profession.
Suggest you try out some jobs first prior to choosing that as your career. As a start you may begin with what your prevailing interests are.
I am a trained accountant, but I do not practise accounting.

You choose the career that is best suited to your interests and something that you enjoy. With that in mind, work will forever be a joy and not a tedious excercise to put money in your pocket.

Do what you like. Talk to people who do that job and decide if that still sounds interesting to you. There may be tons of jobs youd like that you dont even know exist.
Don't do this through college. They will enroll you and teach you a field that is oversaturated. Find out what you like and then take college classes in it.

Find something you love doing, because all the money in the world won't make a crappy job better.
