How much does a police officer make?

Looking to become a police officer. I heard some officers in vegas are getting offered 70 grand which is alot and near me they make like 22 grand a year. Are you a police officer? How much do you make and where do you work, or do you know how much the officers in your area make? Thanks.

depends on state and rank. A police patrol officer would make around 36,000-51,000 (avg. 43,000) A police Sergeant would make around 49,000- 62,000 (avg. 55,000) A Police Chief/ Sheriff would make around 78,000- 88,000 (avg. 83,000)
P.S. Don't go into government to make money, if you are still interested get some experince in law enforcement and switch to private security possibly open your own private security firm it has low overhead

it is depend on how long you have been serving the goverment. in asia, police officer makes around USD 600 per month (after employement confirmation) and they have free accomodation excluding electricity and water bill. The salary will be increased year by year and they have an annual salary bonus.

If you want to make more money, . go for the internet business, which requires less of your time and the one that will not make you feel headache with web designing, or which require IT knowledge. Second, choose the internet based company which offer you the opportunity and at the same time giving you the convenience to start the business. Third, choose the business, which does not require big money to start it.

70 grand a year is not much money in vegas. But I guess with all the other money they make on the take will get them by here.

"Police and sheriff’s patrol officers had median annual earnings of $45,210 in May 2004. The middle 50 percent earned between $34,410 and $56,360. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $26,910, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $68,880. Median annual earnings were $44,750 in Federal Government, $48,980 in State government, and $45,010 in local government.

In May 2004, median annual earnings of police and detective supervisors were $64,430. The middle 50 percent earned between $49,370 and $80,510. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $36,690, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $96,950. Median annual earnings were $86,030 in Federal Government, $62,300 in State government, and $63,590 in local government."

Like all jobs, varies from town to town. There are websites where you can compare what different jobs get paid in different cities.
