Maybe it is the child actor syndrome? It seems that a lot of child actors have a hard time, especially if they have been stars since they were very young. Maybe he was suffering from severe depression but no one got to him in time. Very sad, he was way too young and had such a bright future.

Frankly no one really knows. Depression and other mental illness are still regarded with some stigma in this country which I believe keeps some people from getting the help they need. I hope whatever suffering Jonathan Brandis endured in the course of his much too brief existence on this planet, I hope he is in heaven (or whatever else you want to call it) and at peace.

Beside depression from being overworked, no one actually knows that he committed suicide because he was heart broken.
In the letter that he wrote his mother before he committed suicide, he wrote that he was saddened that his love had abandoned him and that he is no longer wanting to see Johnathan.

His whole life was based on acting .. His carreer started to fail and everythingh went downohill. he acted on impulses and killed himself

At the time of his death, there was no explanation. My guess would be depression... unfortunately :( I liked him, too.
