some of you already know my situation. I went to the doctor today, I'm almost 39 weeks and The doctor said I am dilated to 4. My water has not broken. how soon could I have her? 2 weeks ago I was not dilated. Or could it be a while still? How soon do you think I would have to go over to the hospital? and what exactly is a delivery plan? 1st time mom

the doctor told me that we hopefully have a baby this weekend. She told me even though I am a first time mom that I will know when hard labor hits. I feel stupid to ask but what is the mucus plug? does it come before or after the water breaks?

Be conscious of labor pains. Don't expect that you will see your mucus plug or have your water break. Only 18% of women actually have their bag break prior to labor onset.
Regular contractions are what you should look for.
Timing really varies, so good luck and I hope it's soon!

There is no telling. You could be dilated for a while, but 4 is pretty high. I'm guessing you will go over the weekend. You have hours to get to the hospital unless your water breaks, they will want you to come right in. A delivery plan is when you write down what you want. This includes if you want natural or an epidural, things like that. Some people insist they don't want an epidural for pain and then are begging for it and it is too late. You also can say if you want to breastfeed right away or not at all. Good luck, how exciting! Let us know how you make out.

Your mucous plug has probably already passed, and you missed it, which happens. I am surprised you are still home at 4!! I would guess definitely this weekend. Walk lots and have lots of sex if you want to speed things along and are comfortable to do so (not if your water has broken). A delivery plan is written out by you to share with your hospital, doctor, etc. It just states your wishes and plans for the delivery. If you do not have one, don't worry. They know what they are doing and will coach you along the entire way.

Dilated 4 cm & you haven't had any bloody show yet? Look for some mucus with a pink tinge or try to be aware of your water breaking. You could have your baby literally any time now. A delivery plan, I think, is how you have chosen to deliver the baby - vaginally or by cesarean, any medication involved to relieve pain, who will be present with you. Good Luck Dear & congrats early

It's hard to say, being it's your first pregnancy. Everyone is so different. What will start help to get you going is to walk, walk, walk! It might be uncomfortable, but it really works. When I was pregnant with my first child, at 40 weeks, I was dilated to 3, no water bag was broken...and I didn't even feel any contractions. Dr. had to induce my labor...but that wasn't till 2 weeks later...and still then...i had no contractions and my water bag wouldn't break. 3 days later, dr tried to break my bad, and he did, and that still didn't work. so i had a c-section.
good luck!!!

honey it could be an hour or it could be 3 weeks. I know you're getting uncomfortable and impatient but wait it out. Savor these last few days of complete freedom. You won't have anymore time to yourself for a while.

When your water breaks or your contractions are 5 minutes apart you should go into the hospital unless your dr says otherwise.

Good Luck.

4cm you probalby lost your mucus plug and did not know it. You could walk and see if that helps to progress things! You should deliver this weekend just keep gas in the car and be perpared at any minute to go...Your in the home stretch....Go out and get last minute baby things or go to the grocery store to make sure the house is fully stocked when you get home..

Every birth is different. There's really no telling, you're just going to have to wait it out. I'm sure the doctor could give you a better idea then we could. Congrats anyway!
