True freedom doesn't exist, no matter what you do there is always a consequence, good or bad. The odd thing about it is that the more that we choose those actions with the bad consequences you lose some of the freedome that you have (if you decide to get the $40K car instead of the $30K car then you are a slave to the money lenders and have less choices later on about what you can do with your moeny, or if you start doing drugs you limit your choice of jobs, friends, what to spend money on etc...). This is why parents trying to teach kids morals does not hold them back or limit their individuality in any way, it actually enhances it.

Freedom or at least the concept of it does make sense. As in a way that is what we all aspire to. Freedom of speech, freedom of action, laissez faire, you can hear them all echoing down history's long corridor. However freedom in it's truest sense can never really be for it would be anarchy each man for himself and therefore we would have no society, no morals nothing. Therefore freedom as a concept is great, but without a sense of cross cultural, cross religious and cross social morals it would all be for nothing.

You need to define "freedom".
As Kris Kristofferson once said, "Freedom's just another word/For nothing left to lose"
