I just asked my 14 year daughter (she is a big Green Day fan) and she says the song is NOT about drugs. She suggests you go to www.lyred.com and look up the lyrics and show your mom. good luck, my daughter says there is nothing "bad" on that CD, it's good.

Poprocks And Coke by Green Day
Album: International Superhits
Date: 2001
POPROCKS & COKE - This song is about being there for someone, even through tough times.
SONG FACTS: This is a twisted look at a relationship. The guy in the song is rejected by the girl. However, he still expresses his love to her constantly despite the fact that she has no feelings for him.
Pop Rocks are a kind of candy that crackles when you put it in your mouth. There were schoolyard rumors that if you ate Pop Rocks and drank soda at the same time, it would explode. This song uses that as a metaphor for the relationship.

Wherever you go
You know I’ll be there
If you go far,
You know I’ll be there
I’ll go anywhere,
So I’ll see you there
You place the name
You know I’ll be there
You name the time
You know I’ll be there
I’ll go anywhere
So I’ll see you there
I don’t care if you don’t mind
I’ll be there not far behind
I will dare
Keep in mind
I’ll be there for you
Where there’s truth
You know I’ll be there
Amongst the lies
You know I’ll be there
I’ll go anywhere
So I’ll see you there
I don’t care if you don’t mind
I’ll be there not far behind
I will dare
Keep in mind
I’ll be there for you
If you should fall
You know I’ll be there
To catch the call
You I’ll be there
I’ll go anywhere
So I’ll see you there
I don’t care if you don’t mind
I’ll be there not far behind
I will dare
Keep in mind
I don’t care
I’ll be there for you
I’ll be there for you
"Maria" and the puppy-dog love of "Poprocks & Coke." Because International Superhits doesn't pull from Green Day's early EPs and Lookout albums or offer any live variations, though, this album is really only one for the serious-minded collectors who don't want to skip past a single Green Day release.

Ok, it's true that Pop Rocks & Coke are drug slang, but you have to really read deep into the lyrics to get that out of this song. I guess if a person was determined to MAKE the song be about drugs, it could be interpreted that the drugs are the voice in the song, and they're singing to the addict that they'll always find the addict & always be there to tempt & torture him.
Maybe it's just funny because it sounds like it might be about drugs & then isn't. There used to be an urban legend that if you eat Pop Rocks & then drink Coca-Cola, your stomach would rupture from the pressure & you'll die (obviously this is not true -- do this and worst case scenario, you'll barf). It could mean all the promises in the song are fake, like the urban legend, or that the friendship in the song dates back to childhood when they ate Pop Rocks & drank Coke, or heck maybe it's about both -- old friends who bonded over doing drugs together.
It's such a simple song, and the lyrics are so innocent. Ask your mom to go online & type "poprocks and coke lyrics" into Google & read the lyrics. If she finds anything offensive or inappropriate about the lyrics, let it go. She's just trying to protect you.

There was a Urban Legend about Pop Rocks (the candy that pops in your mouth) and Coke (Coca Cola)! Supposibly if you combined the two you blew up! That was even what many said happened to Mikey (you know Life cereal Mikey)!
Have your mom watch the movie Urban Legends they talk about it in it even!

They mean Cocacola. There's a myth that if you eat poprocks and Coca Cola then you'll die...but like i said... it's an urban legend.

It's not about drugs....the Coke in the song refers to Coca-Cola, not Cocaine. But to be perfectly honest with you, that album is really not up to their normal output, so unless you're just a completist you can probably do without it.

"poprocks and coke"? aren't poprocks kinds of sweets/candy? I think if you mix the two it fizzes right up. nothing to do with drugs. 'coke' refers to the soft drink rather than the drug.
