I plan to get a checking account for my LLC and I was wondering if I need a tax i.d. number for it. I live in TX. If I need a tax i.d., where do I get one and how much do they usually cost? I don't plan to sell retail. I will be providing a service.

Thanks in advance!

I disagree with the other responses. You will NOT need a separate Federal Tax ID number for the LLC if you are the sole owner of the LLC and the LLC has no employees. If you are the sole owner of the LLC and the LLC has employees, you will need to get a separate Federal Tax ID number, if you choose to have the LLC report and pay employment taxes with respect to employees of the LLC.

If you are not the sole owner of the LLC, you will need a separate Federal Tax ID number for the LLC. See IRS Notice 99-6, 1999-1 CB 321. Good luck.

No. An LLC is taken under consideration someone in quite some respects. they gained't provide you with a tax identity. until eventually you've workers, you do not even want one. yet, in case you do ensure to get a tax identity, use the phone provider even as registering for the federal. they promises you with the large variety earlier the decision is over. in case you do it any incorrect way you may want to finally end up waiting a month earlier you get it. (pay attention of field 8). States are different, and that i'd recommend contacting your community state tax workplace and having them walk you by ability of the workplace artwork.

Anything you sell to others in the state of Texas, in subject to taxes. If you sell something to someone in a different state, it is not subject to taxes. Contact the Internal Revenue Service in the state of Tx or go to irs.gov for the info & forms that you will need. You should be able to apply over the i'net, the fee is nominal.

Yes, you need a tax ID. That's what identifies you to the IRS, like a social security number does for an individual.

Check irs.gov to see how to get one or call the Internal Revenue Service.

I'm guessing it's free or cost very little.

If I remember correctly, there is no fee fot EIN application.

Also, if you plan to have emloyees and your state has payroll taxes, you will need a state payroll tax ID. You should contact your state's payroll tax authority for details.

You need to fill out an SS-4 form. Go to the IRS web site and download it.

You'll need to show Articles of Organization and probably Certifcate of Good Standing.
