There are a lot of good free websites on resume writing, some even offer templates, but the best advice I can add to that is to say that the style of resume you select has to depend on what type of job you are applying for and what skills you have. Be creative and professional, your resume will be stacked with hundreds, thousands, make it neat, easy to read and focused with skills or employment or education background to the job you are applying for. (Ex. If its at a fast food restaurant, ensure words like hard-working, loyal, customer service and other type 'buzz' works are easy to see and stand out. Most hiring staff skim and don't read the details of a resume, if the really important stuff is buried, they won't bother reading it. Put the important stuff at the top and make sure there are no spelling mistakes. I don't know how many times I didn't bother reading further on a resume when there was a spelling mistake or there was too much detail.

Sure...one very important thing is your career objective that should come right on top of your resume. You should customize this according to what job you are looking for or develop a general one that fits all. Also, keep your resume to one page only. And make sure there are no typos etc!

That's one of the functions of your State Division of Labor. Go to the unemployment office in your town and ask 'em for help. You can also check with your local community college about classes that'll help. Most communities have an adult continuing education program in effect; in New York it's BOCES.
