Select any picture file (eg: jpg), with Shift key depressed, right click the file. You will get an option 'Open With' in the popup menu. Goto 'Open With' and choose default ptogram. Select the program you want (if it is not listed, you can browse for the program you want) and tick the 'Always use this' check box. The program association will now change to the new program

You will need to change the association... here's how to do it (Assuming you want to change your JPG file's association):

1. Open the windows explorer
2. From the menu, select Tools-->Folder Options
3. In the window that opens up, select the 'File Types' tab
4. This will list all the extensions that have associations. Scroll down to where .jpg is.
5. When you select (just click on JPG in the list) JPG type, it will show you buttons to Delete the association or Change it.
6. If you want to be prompted next time you double click on .jpg file, just delete the association.

When a file with new extension (that doesn't yet have an association registered on your pc) is double clicked, it prompts you for the application you want to chose to open it. At this time, there is also an option (a check box) to always use that application to open this type of file with. If you select that check box - the association is stored in the registry and next time double clicking it would just open that file with the previously associated application.

Hope this helps.

It's easy... just select any Jpeg File and press alt+enter and in Open with option choose... windows Picture and fax viewer, yea i like this too instead of other powerful image Viewers... it's very quick and comfortable.....

open a folder
go to tools
go to folder options
go to the tab called file types
find the extention you want
click on it
you should see a button that says "change"
click on it and select whatever program you want the application to be associated with from now on

Open up the program you want to use and it should give you the option to make it the default program.
