6 of the top 10 teams in the ESPN pre-season power rankings are from the AFC. BUT - 6 of the bottom 10 are also from the AFC. So it would seem that on this basis, the 2 conferences should be pretty evenly matched. So the answer may lie in which divisions play which divisions - For example, the AFC East contains 2 top ten teams and 2 bottom 10 teams and they play the NFC North, which contains no top 10 teams and 2 bottom ten teams. This would seem to favor the AFC. The AFC West plays the NFC West, this would also seem to favor the AFC, especially since the Seahawks - the #1 power ranking team - has to visit both Denver and Kansas City - 2 notoriously difficult places for the visiting team. The AFC North plays the NFC South - again, probably an AFC advantage. Finally, the NFC East plays the AFC South. In spite of the Colts being ranked 3rd in the power rankings, it's likely that the Cowboys (7), Redskins (10) and Giants (11) will beat up on the Jaguars (12), Titans(29) and Texans(30).
So - to sum up - with a couple of breaks for some of the lower ranked AFC teams - the NFC will be dominated.

Dominate your a fool. AFC won head to head games 33-29 wow that's domination. but the NFC is winning 21 to 19 in Superbowl victories. This year the NFC east is by far the hardest division in football. Cowboys added alot this year, Giants defense got stronger, and the redskins once again went and bought every free agent. Seattle managed to maintain there team, DA Bears didn't lose anyone, and the sorry little cardinals are starting to look good, NFC east is strong. and the AFC ; the pats didn't do anything, the steelers lost alot, Colts lost there running game, Chargers lost there QB, Bronco's are the only team that made moves to better the there team, and the rest of the AFC teams don't even matter.

The best team in the NFC could be Seattle (again) so what does this tell ya? The Seahawks adopted AFC (West) style football while there and the rest of the NFC (except maybe Carolina) just can't seem to close the gap.

Is the American League better than the National League? Same answer. The Broncos, Steelers, Bengals, Colts, Jaguars, Patriots and Chiefs are better than almost every NFC team. The Seahawks and maybe the Panthers can hold a candle to the AFC, no one else has a chance.

The AFC is to the NFL like the Western Conference in the NBA used to be before the Pistons won it. In other words, the AFC will dominate this year.

Well...lets look at it on paper:
NFC:
Arizona (Offense offense offense...can the Defense step up...that'd be frightening)
Seattle (About the same as last season)
Carolina (#3 D in 2005...greatly improved offense)
New Orleans (Injuries hurt in 2005, big improvement for 2006)
Chicago (Defense....and a decent offense as seen in the loss to Carolina)
New York (Improved Defense, progressing offense, another good season)
Washington (Offense of their dreams this season, and a defense that is looking sharp)
Dallas (Added T.O. for Bledsoe to hit, the defense didn't get any worse, good team)
Green Bay and St. Louis shouldn't be rule out right away, they aren't looking too bad either.
AFC:
Denver (13-4 in 2005...they're my pick to win the super bowl if Carolina can't)
Indianapolis (14-2 in 2005..bad playoff team, but they'll dominate the regular season)
Jacksonville (Underdog!!!!!! Watch out for these guys)
Cincinati (Palmer, Johnson, Houshmenwhatever, Henry, Rudi....enough said)
Baltimore (Out on a limb here...but McNair added to the mix should be huge for them)
San Deigo, Kansas City, Pittsburg, New England, and Miami all have some hope, but hardly dominating on paper at this point.
I'm going to say no...I think the NFC is gaining the upperhand right now....FINALLY its been too long...Tampa was the last NFC team to win a Super Bowl...which is depressing...I'm going to say that if Denver doesn't make the Super Bowl...the NFC is going to take it for sure.

Many teams in the NFC improved themselves--Seattle, Carolina, Dallas, Washington, to name a few--whereas not a lot of teams in the AFC improved themselves. I'd think the parity will be much more present this year.
Go Panthers!
