Try a mixture of DAWN dishwashing liquid and water. If stain is really bad just squirt a bit of DAWN on it and then blot with a damp paper towel.

What kind of grease?

Goo-Gone usually works well - but did you know that Goo-Gone is just gasoline? So you can also use lighter fluid, gas, paint thinner, rubbing alcohol, or finger polish remover. <1>

If the stain is persistent, you could see if a carpet place would do a small patch for you ... they just cut it out in the shape of a circle and stick in a new piece.

I recommend using Goo Gone carpet wipes. You just rub it on your carpet stain and the stain disappears. It's amazing! You don't have to use water or pour something on your carpet. No mixing or waiting for the spot to dry.

Dawn soap works on about everything. The regulard Dawn is best.
