You're probably a lot better at what you love than you think. The thing is, when you love something you become afraid to fail at it. It makes you hold back. It's not about talent, it's about courage.

Mozart and Shakespeare were geniuses. I love music, probably as much as Mozart did, but I do not have the same talent that he does! That doesn't mean that you're mediocre (you may be the smartest person alive, and yet still not compare to Einstein). It just means that no matter what you do, there will always be someone who can do it better. Some people are gifted. Some people are not. Most of us are not!

That would be a great world, wouldn't it? I agree. But then who would take out the trash or work on road crews or waitress? We seem to need the desire for greatness, or that aspiration, more than we actually need the greatness. It spurs us on as we work towards it, and often so, while doing dead-end jobs, (I know- worked one for 10 years) and allowing society to function (or misfunction, as the case often is). It allows us to still enjoy the pleasure of providing for ourselves and families, while dreaming of the goal of doing something we truly love and getting paid for it.
I realize I've brought economics into a question that didn't necessarily mention that, but it seems implied and a benefit accompanying the greatness. Of course- it didn't quite work out that way for Mozart though...

we all have a purpose in life and maybe you just havent really found yours. there are things that I Love to do and really wanted to make a living doing it such as my art work, I was good but not great but in the process I stumbled apon something totaly different then what I had planned banking and finance to be exact and fell in love with it and found I was really good at it. so just keep searching for what you are ment to do. I dont know if you are religious or not but pray about it, pray for guidence and wisdom and you'll find your purpose in life. some just find theirs sooner then others. but dont give up!!

One can be great at what they love and one can be great at what they are forced to do. It depends on one's maturity level and self confidence. Quite often, we really dont know what we want to do. Sometimes we do things coz someone suggests it, we are sceptical to begin with...but later on we really ROCK and we begin to LOVE it....
Its about knowing it deep in our hearts and backing ourselves all along the way that helps us in delivering our best - be it something we love ( naturally ) or something we begin to love ( as a learning / cultivated habit )

EVERYBODY is born as a rough diamond. Diamonds develop through Pressure and Heat and Time, right? It is up to us in our lifetime to nurture and polish this Jewel. Unfortunately 'practice, practice, practice' is part of Time. And there's always somebody else with less talent willing to practice more.
