Well if I ever uninstall GIMP, will I lose all of my images because they are now GIMP imsges?

you have probably just choose to associate the file types to the images when you installed the program.

This means you have set to have the GIMP program open your image file types.

Photoshop will do this too. Then all your images will be "photoshop" images meaning they will open with the photoshop program.

To change the association:
> right click on any image
> select "properties"
> where it says "opens with" click the button "change"
> select a different program
> make sure the "always open with this file type" check box is ticked.
> click ok
> click "apply"

you are done.

GIMP did this when I installed it too. I think this is what I did to fix it. (I also uninstalled the GIMP, because I think it really sucks as a program and it's worth the $40 to buy Photoshop Elements - seriously I hated the GIMP!)
But I digress - you can try this...

*right-click on any of your photo files
*choose "Open with..."
*Don't pick any of the programs showing - instead, choose "Choose Program"
*Then pick the windows default program "Windows picture and fax viewer"
*Then check the box on the same screen that says "always use this program to open these types of files"

Gimp images... not Gif images? ummm you could resave it in a different format.. just click on save as and then click the arrow in the field where it shows as a GIMP and choose from something else in the list like Tiff, JPG, Gif.. something like that. Good luck

Install some other picture viewer like the ACD see or something. That will change all the formats from GIMP to .JPEG.

opposite to conventional theory, i stumble on GIMP to be more effective effective than photoshop because it truly is a lot more effective without project customizable. numerous human beings on listed right here are declaring the interface is complicated, which i can understand. once you get over that learning curve it receives more effective. video clips like the single less than help plenty:

like i have been telling people for 10 years. do not ever do anything to an original image. always use copies in case you don't like how they turn out.
