Nobody really knows. There is no way right now, if ever, to figure that out in numbers. There are "out" people, some not so out, others in denial, some teenagers and youth just figuring it out, some children to young to count, and so on. There is one thing for sure, that more GLBTQ people should be voting! I would call it about 40/60 now, maybe more maybe less, as GLB to straight.
Vote! Be the change you want to see in the world!

There's a doctoral dissertation for you. No one knows.
Kinsey found 4-10% of American men were largely homosexual in behavior during part of their lives. The same was true of 2-4% of the women.
However, now we're recognizing sexual orientation as the defining characteristic of sexuality. (Note that the Catholic church is assessing priests in ways that also consider sexual attraction.)
This is research that probably needs to be done, but defining your terms for a worldwide community will be exceedingly difficult.
Good luck.

guesstimates vary between 5 & 15% of the population so yes, you are in the minority. Add another 5% or so for all us bisexuals and we're still in the minority.
8,000,000,000 people x ~10% = 800,000,000.

honestly i would say that you probably are still a minority, but i think that many people are still afraid to let themselves be gay instead of hiding it. but i would think that about 10-15% of the world population is gay. honestly, i think it will always be a minority, but thats ok, we need those straight people to pop out more babies!!!

Thirty years ago, according to "Kensey" it was 10%.
These days it should be higher if you would include the Bisexuals meaning it might be up in to 30-35 percent.

Yes gay people are statistically in the minority. If gays are statistically one-in-ten, and there are approximately 663,390,500 people in the world, 10% of that is, 66,339,050 gay people.

we'll be a minority until governments treat us as equals. It doesn't matter how many of us there are, unless the law sees us as human beings with the same rights as our straight neighbors.

Until sexual orientation is a question on the census forms (alongside age, sex, race, religion), there is no real way to know yet.
