What is my first step of action if i find a strange name and addresses on my credit report. Should i call the police or is there a web site I can go to to report the activity. The report mentions balances which I do not owe.

First step of actions is to contact all 3 credit bureaus, next try to contact the company( if its a company) that you don't recognize and see what's going on. You can also put a fraud alert on your credit report that means every time your name is used to open up a new line of credit they contact you immediately.

Contact the credit bureau first. They can give you information regarding the company that has reported on your file. It could be something as simple as a data entry error. Once you have that information, contact the creditor and tell them that they have reported information in error.

Good luck!

lots of banks by me are always on the radio saying to come in for advice on ID theft. go to ur bank first then prolly the police if its for sure an issue and not just a credit card application that you filled out that pulled your credit history/report

credit reports arent reliable anyways, only credit companies rely on them. Best thing to do is go to the police and let them know they will know what to do.

Contact the company that you got your credit report from. Let them know that those charges are not yours. Sometimes your name gets spelled incorrectly, but they still consider it as you. It doesn't hurt to check.

First step is contact your credit card company. They can refer you to some govt agencies that will help you investigate whether or not your identity has been stolen.
