Apparantly the male bfb uses them in courtship displays. I would assume the female bfb is evolutionarily programmed to have a certain affinity towards a certain hue of blue feet that could possibly signify that a particular male bfb is the best candidate for breeding.

one option, for example, could be that the females can see the color blue better than others, so boobies with blue feet were more visible to females and therefore mated more.

I love those birds. I have read that bobo is Spanish for clown and that is why i guess they named it the boobie. They said that scientists are still puzzled about why their feet are blue.

It's a sign of verility. The brighter the males feet the more attractive they are.
