don't worry. i have a friend who went through that same problem, oh and it's normal. look it's only squealing at u because it dosen't know u very well. and u just got it today, so just let it get used to u and maybe in time like maybe about a week or so. he'll stop squealing after while and he'll improve or you'll hear less of the susquealing! and if it dosen't happen soon then talk to the person who sold him to you.maybe he/she has an answer. oh and a way for him to stop squeaking at you sooner possibly hold him, feed him his food, and maybe even buy him something interactive to play with like a hamster wheel, slide, or any other various toys. try it and have fun!!!

Sometimes a hamster will "squeal" when attempting to handle him - the squeal is a sign that he is afraid. They usually don't bite when squealing, but there are exceptions to every rule! If he has been handled previously, go ahead and gently pick him up. The squealing will stop as he relaxes and no longer senses danger.

you need to leave your hampster alone for about 24 hours it is a small animal that has had a very big day. let it get used to the new smells and sights of his new home for a while before you try to play with it he is still very confused you moved him away from everything he knew after a day or two begin to put him in a hamster ball and let him get to know the room he is in then begin to take him out for short peroids of time just you and the hampster start at about five or ten min. at first and work your way up when you are handling him give him small treats(one or two seeds at a time ie sunflower, seasme, ect)then put him back and try agian in an hour or two doing the same thing this gets him comfy with being handled and to think of it as a positive experence! good luck!!

In a book about ferrets, the author suggested not handling the pet for two days to give it time to adjust. Then let the pet sniff your hand and come to you as it gets used to you. That would probably be true for a new hamster too.
Good luck and have fun!

OK
i had 3 hamsters until now! They were sweet and friendly but they have a problem with the accommodation, they should get to know you and the atmosphere from the home. Patience and understanding and he will be friendly with you! And DO NOT WAKE HIM UP! They can't suffer to be waked! it's small?

Hamsters are preys to many animals in the wild. Naturally they will always try to defend themselves. Since your scene is new to your hamster, he won't know whether you are going to swallow it. Haha!
Give it some times to get used to its new home first, then you can start to do hand feeding to convince that you are friendly.

It's frightened !!! A new home, new enviroment it's all a shock to the little guy, give him a chance to get used to his new home and settle in and feel safe and he won't be so nervous-just give him a chance to settle and he'll be fine, but some don't like being over handled like a toy-they've got real feelings too.ktf.x

he's squealing and hissing because number one he's scared.. whenever you get a new rodent.. they are usually scared at first.. he's in a new environment with new surroundings. before you take him out to play with him.. give him some time to get use to his new home and new life style... then when he seems use to the place take him out and get him use to you. you have to gradually increase the new beginnings on him or else they will become afraid of you and the home.
just give him sometime.

Your hamster is not used to you. In time it will start to get used to you and eventually like you.
