Crazy is a relative term, means one thing to one person, another thing to someone else. I'm not sure I can answer the question you've asked, so let me rephrase. We're all a little bit crazy, don't ya think? How about the term dysfunctional, what makes a person dysfunctional, words or actions. Well, both, either. Both stem from thought patterns, and even more basic, attitude. Let's take an example, I have a job. Generally I like my job, but sometimes my boss says things that I think are overly critical and not respectful of me as an employee. But, like I say, most of the time I like my job. And I have bills to pay. OK, boss sends me an E-mail telling me all about the things that I should have done, but I didn't. Bottom line, though the customer is happy, and the customer pays for the service the company provides. Do I, 1) swallow my immediate angry response and realize that I want to keep my job? or do I 2) send an angry E-mail back telling him to where to get off, or do I 3) get angry and just leave, he can find some other sucker to send E-mails to. So, which is the functional response? 2 and 3 are very likely to get me fired. I won't be able to pay my bills. I might end up homeless. I .....
attitude... time to get an attitude adjustment...
and realize that the boss signs my check so, I choose 1, but also look to see if what he said made sense, if it could improve my job performance if I took his "suggestions." But, if he becomes too abusive, more than I feel I want to accept, then, quietly I might start looking elsewhere. Thinking it through as to what response will work, i.e. FUNCTIONAL. realizing that sometimes it's a crazy world, and sometimes crazy responses are FUNCTIONAL. For example, the perfect response to my boss might be 4) Humor, get him laughing by acting crazy..
So was my answer functional, or dysfunctional? LOL
