They both control the way people think.
I think for myself and that is why I am independent.

There are quite a few differences...

The Democratic Party is committed to keeping our nation safe and expanding opportunity for every American. That commitment is reflected in an agenda that emphasizes the security of our nation, strong economic growth, affordable health care for all Americans, retirement security, honest government, and civil rights.

Conservative values are at the heart of the Republican Party. The Republican National Committee's Conservative Team Leader outreach regularly engages with conservative activists from across the country, working together to further a national agenda promoting free markets, limited government, and stronger families and communities.

I am a Democrat and I believe in the following:

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.

Republicans are generally considered conservative. Most Republicans espouse a belief in God (although they're not all very good at obeying His rules) and believe in equal opportunity but not equal outcome, reward for hard work and risk, strict criminal laws and severe punishments for those who break them, and the importance of personal responsibility. Democrats are generally considered liberal. Most liberals find the idea of God outdated or archaic, they believe in using the Government as a social equalizer to combat prejudicial or racial injustices, they espouse a desire for fewer rules and fewer boundaries, they believe that business should be heavily regulated so the rights of the workers are enforced, and they also generally believe that each individual has the right to decide what his right or wrong for him/her.

I'm a Republican because (a) the Democrats have no one moral foundation that applies equally to everyone, (b) I believe that individuals do not have the right to do whatever the heck they think is right, with no regard to their fellow human beings or society as a whole, and (c) the liberal ideology is very hypocritical -- liberals like to point fingers and say what's wrong with this country, but when you point out what they are doing that's wrong, their response is "who are you to tell me what I can and can't do?"

democrats tend to support programs that help the citizens like welfare. republicans tend to think that they should be able to stand on their own 2 feet.

one saying i have heard to describe the difference is "give a man a fish, feed him for a day (democrats) teach a man to fish, feed him for life (republicans). I don't agree with that but I've heard it a lot.

I'm very "middle of the road". I support each depending on the issue. I lean more towards the left...meaning democrats. Left wing means democrat right wing is republican.

There's a big list of things that democrats believe in that republicans don't, and vice versa......aborsion, right to bare arms...it was a bunch of crap they made up back in the day to determine what who believed in. either way, if you decide which one you are, your probably an *sshole who thinks he's better than everyone else. The actual meaning now would basicly be, if we are in war, republicans piss away all our money to send people to that country for absolutely no reason. Democrats will apologize for our building being in the way of an airplane (I'm sorry, here's some money, it should cover the damage).

Dems are what as known as the Liberals and Republicans are known as conservatives. Their opinions and viewpoints on most topics are 180 degrees out of synch. Democrats tend to be very touchy feely, do-gooder types while Republicans are more hard core and tend to believe people should fend for themselves and be tough as it takes. For example..take a vote on something like money for unwed mothers. Dems would be giving money out by the barrels full, while Republicans would be more like..it's her bed..let her lie in it.
Now....with the Democratic slant on my example..sure..it's nice to be nice and help people..BUT..I work hard and why SHOULD I pay, through my taxes for the misfortune of others.
With the Republican slant.."hey...we're not paying for everyones little problems" with everyone's tax dollars. YA..but how about my unwed, pregnant sisters you bastards!

So...in short..it's two, miles apart, viewpoints of just about everything. However..that's what makes it work. You have someone asking for 30 bucks..another offering 10..and we sooner or later usually meet in the middle at 20..and everyones happy..and everyone is pissed.

It's a tough thing to figure and sort out and even tougher to ultimately take a side; that's if you take it seriously.

A diehard Republican.......
Oh..and to Toughashell...I never met a tough Dem.

Traditionally Democrats support a strong Central government, the group way of solving problems.

The republicans have supported State governments and individual freedom. the power of the individual to overcome.

Republicans support lower taxes, less government, more Defense and Christian values.

Democrats support more government programs, negotiation over confrontation and Secular values!

the Diferrence is that Democrats want to take care of everyone (u know like medical and Wic and food stampps and what not), but at the expense of a large government and higher taxes. The Republicans want to have a small government where the people take care of themselves and taxes are lower, but this hurts the people who rely on the government to live. Um Rep. are against gay marriage, against abortion, and against illegal immigrants. democrats believe that the people have a choice for abortion and gays and are more passive with the illegal immigration thing. ummm, i think i'm
independant believing only parts of both groups.

they have different stands on current events. I don't support either, because the democrats and republican that are in power are extremists of their political party. The moderates are the everyday people who have more centered, reasonably views of current events, but they are too busy with jobs and their lives to be politicians.
