If you had ever researched or followed the life stories of some rappers you would know that rapping was their way out of the ghetto. As this does not account for all of the rappers backgrounds (a hand full grew up suburbanites with a middle class income.) the majority offer a roll model status for youth living in the ghetto or hood. This, ironically, is the aim of rappers who once resided lower class...to influence other young men and woman in what used to be their own situation. I guess, in other words, to create proteges to them. Hope this answers your question.
**All music...even rock has "bad" content. (For the above that is worried) They do not glamorise....they speak of reality. Pick up the paper and read it thoroughly one morning. No, its not glamourous...its real.

Let me say that Rap is not influencing me to become famous, for I have other dreams. However, being a young minority, rap music influences because we feel that it is the easiest way to become rich. We look at a rapper and we see their cars, the girls that they attract, the chains, the houses, and the money , and we feel that hey, if these guys can get all of this by rhyming to a musical beat, I can do the same thing and get all of the things that they have.

Because it would hardly influence them to become a country western star!
And why wouldn't someone want the easy way out of the ghetto? Geeze, everybody wants out! And they want to take everyone they know and love with them. (Except an awful lot of rap stars seem to have taken the worst of the ghetto with them, and left the good parts behind. )
The fact that it won't work for most of them won't stop them from trying, nor should it.

these rap stars find a way to glamorize the hood and street stuff... i don't believe that life was meant to be easy. easy doesn't build character... all that street crap is about tearing up another person's life and family... drugs and murder... and sorry bastards not taking care of their kids or the women that had them. now, what is glamorous about that? i don't know why they do it but you helped me vent... thank you!

For the same reason people want to become professional athletes, actors, rock stars, astronauts, etc.
It's a glorified profession.

Because talent is not that important, I mean, look at Lil' Jon, all you have to do is say 'Yeah' a couple hundred times and get some millions in your pocket.
