Josh Gibson, of the ***** Leagues' Homestead Grays. This man palyed catcher his entire career, hit moon shots time after time, again. His batting average, number of homeruns hit, year after year, the distance of his homers......it all is quite extraordinary---no one even comes close. Check it out for yourself. Perform yahoo!searches on, Josh Gibson.com, and, Greatest baseball player ever (and click on josh gibson). THe guy was the greatest! The greatest player in MLB history is unclear, if there was no discussion of steroids, or, drug use, then it would be Bonds, but, becuase there is a cloud over Bonds' head, the pick here is Ruth. Did you know he was a very good pitcher, in addition to cranking out all of those homers. The dude was great. If I am not mistaking, he was undefeated as a postseason pitcher. His career pitching earned run average is somewhere in the neighborhood of 2.28. His fielding percentages were generally in the .900 plus area. In one year when he won 23 games, he also had 9 shutouts and 23 complete games. The very next year he had 6 shutouts, 35 complete games and 24 wins. Yep, Ruth was the man. Go to BabeRuth.com and check it out. By the way, the argument to be made for Bonds is not without merit/ statistical data to back it up, the guy has had an unimaginable career. How about scoring over 2100 runs, having over 2700 hits, over 700 homers, over 500 doubles, and, over 500 steals, and of course he's got a career average of 299. Say what you want but the numbers are real.

Babe Ruth. He completely redefined the game of baseball and single-handedly rescued it from its darkest hour. He also was a great pitcher before he became a full time outfielder.

Ty Cobb - Not the nicest man ever, but if there was any one player I'd want on my team - I would choose the "Georgia Peach"
