when I get it for free piggybacking off my neighbors wifi network? Constantly high speed stays on 24/7, and is feeding the internet over my wifi home network. Anywhere in my home, I get free internet for my computers, laptop, ps2 and anything else! my buddy next door is buying some wifi cards and a router to run his home off of mine! Its great! Is this immoral or illegal? I've seen no paper work or warning telling me so.

Dude, you are risking yourself!
- There has been a case in Florida that a man was charged for piggybacking on others wi-fi.

- Most importantly, you are opening yourself up for security violations. Your neighbor has the security controls for the wi-fi network. If you are using it for your financial transactions/email, he can surely tap into it if he knows how. Your data-stream actually is going via HIS router. Don't think he doesn't know that you are stealing his bandwidth. He might be stealing your credit card numbers, bank accounts, as your data is all unprotected "over-the-air" and he has the control.

Sure, go ahead. He's an idiot for not making his network secure. tell all of your neighbors too. They may want to steal his bandwidth as well. Meanwhile, why stop there? If you're in a store, and the people who work there are too stupid to watch you, put some packs of gum in your pocket. Better yet, take some of the nice electronic stuff the sell in places like Wal Mart. They won't care. They have tons of that stuff. Besides, isn't Wal Mart supposed to be, like, bad or something? If you can, find some guy you know who is like a real computer geek and see if he can't hack into your neighbor's computer and find good stuff like credit card numbers, love letters, porn, naked pictures of his wife, etc. That would be soooo cooooool! The guy's stupid, right? He deserves for this to happen to him. You know what I think? I think you should try to get free cable and climb up the telephone pole in front of your house at night and string a cable to your TV. You get all the channels for free, including the Pay Per View channels. Isn't that smart? You don't have to pay for anything if you're savvy enough. Fill up your tank and speed out of the gas station, buy stolen stuff off the back of a truck, shoplift. There's nothing wrong with any of that, is there? Just don't be uncool and tell your neighbor that he should encrypt his network and require a network key without broadcasting his SID, because then you wouldn't be able to get free internet access and then brag about it.

the air is free for breathing and grabbing unprotected wireless networks from people who dont have them WEP protected
thats what i do
the only suggestion i have is dont share that connection with too many poeple for a couple of reasons
1st cause the more people on there the slower it will start to get
2nd if it gets to slow and the person you are getting it from thinks something is wrong with there service, they might call someone out to look at it. if that happens i would think a professional will put a lock on that network and then you wont be able to connect anymore.

If you have to ask about the morality of your actions then I believe you've answered your own question. What you're attempting to do here is to justify your actions in your mind. The long and short of it is that you are stealing something that is not yours. Can you be prosecuted for that, probably not but that still does not make it right. How would you feel if it was your neighbor asking the very same question about you?

Yes, it is illegal. If he catches you, he can prosecute. It's like stealing electricity, water, cable TV, etc. How will he catch you? By spotting extra MAC addresses on his network as your devices use it. He may also get suspicious of your use of his bandwidth when he has less than what he thinks he should have.

It's illegal, but who's to know? If they get a crazy bandwidth bill they'll probably secure the network even though they should've done that already.

Dude, no matter how you slice it this is stealing.

True, your neighbor should tighten up their network security. However, if your neighbor left their keys in the car would you consider it OK to take it for a spin?

This is bad, stealing someone's connection and using their bandwidth. Its like toing someone car to your car without your knowledge so that he can travel without any fuel expense ad u r the person struggling for it
