Depends. If you are driving at highway speeds having the windows down uses more. If you are in town having the air on uses more. Or you could be like me and the air not work so it doesnt matter

The reason that a car burns more gas with the air on is that the engine has to work harder to run the compresser for the freon which takes more fuel thats why if you listen really closely when you turn the air on the engine will bog for a moment.

Larger engines are not affected as much as smaller ones.
For MY money, it's worth the cost to be cool.
