Is it possible to drink too much water?? I seem to be drinking a lot. No special reason, I just like to drink water. But on the flip side, it doesn't seem like I am getting rid of as much as I am taking in and a friend is concerned. Any ideas?? Oh I am drinking several 32 oz cups a day, like 4 to 6 of these with ice. I am female and work indoors. I do not feel thirsty, just like to drink ice water.

There is such a thing as drinking too much water. It can cause Hyponatremia, which means low salt in the blood. It would cause symptoms similar to heat exhaustion and it is difficult to diagnose. There have been many soldiers who have trained during the summer die from it. It is best to make sure that you intake enough salt and electro-lytes, to ensure that your body functions properly. If not, it would cause your veins to swell, which would increase your blood pressure, make your heart work harder, cause you to sweat and many other symptoms.

Medically speaking it is possible to drink too much water. The link will give some info.

As long as you're not gaining weight and are getting enough electrolytes, you'll be fine.

You are much better off than most Americans. Dehydration is a big problem in the USA.

Good Health.
Peace

Water is healthy. You need to realize that you sweat alot of water out a day, upwards of a couple pints. I wouldn't worry about it. You body stores alot too. I drink alot too, its alot more healthier then say pop. Drinking water is only deadly in the instance of that fraternity initiation a couple years back where they would pour gallons in at one time, the only reason that was harmful is because the stomach filled up.

As for your case, it is perfectly normal. Don't worry about it. You sweat it out, excrete it out and it also exits through the urinary tract.

Your body doesn't absorb as much water when it's ice cold. Room Temp or sightly lower than that wil absorb better. So it may be your body is wanting more water but it cant absorb it because it's so cold. So it tells your brain it wants more.
