It is the most wonderful question/answer combo I have ever seen on this forum or any other. I have tears in my eyes. When, oh when will you answer another question? I just have to read it! I can't wait. Will you publish a book of all your answers? Will you autograph mine for me?

If every one lived by the Bible the whole world would indeed be a better place.
The bottom line is that in human Psyche they know that the words of God is true and by having a criminal swear on the Bible is their ultimate way of giving them their every opportunity to tell the truth for their sake EVENTUALLY.

Everyone would be better if they lived by the Bible. Society would be a Utopia, but that's not gonna happen. I agree with you that it seems pointless to have a criminal swear by the Bible, but maybe there is a little bit of conscience in him/her that still fears God. Every little bit helps I guess. Children are not necesarily goos. I've taught and babysat enough to know that every child's first instinct is to be bad. They have to learn to be good. The Bible is the best way to teach that, however children need someone they trust to explain the Bible to them.

That's ignorant. Its true that criminals probably place no value on the bible... its an outdated tradition.
But to say that children would be better if they lived by the bible is ridiculous. There are some good lessons in that book, but there are a lot of bad ones too. Murder, revenge, genocide... can't we let our kids enjoy life for a few years before we traumatize them with these horrors?

Valid thoughts! I personally think children would be better if their education was from given them from the Bible - and granted is a criminal really going to tell the truth regardless of what he swears by?
However, children are not good - scripture teaches that we are born wicked of heart with no good in us - it's only by loving discipline that we bring out the goodness in our children.

ok obviously you live somewhere on the "bible belt" cuz u do not quit!! of course children would be better if they lived by the bible but how can we get them to do that when their parent's don't? And what difference does it make if a criminal swears on a bible to tell the truth, that's between him/her and God if they lie, plus if their caught lying, they go to jail anyway for perjury.

What a product idea!
A lie-detecting Bible that hangs around the neck of someone testifying in court. The penalty for lying? 2 minutes of stun-gun zapping on the witness stand... self-inflicted?
I'm not sure how to get children to "live by the Bible" when their parents don't even understand what it says.

When criminals swear on the Bible, they are still presumed innocent. It's not until after they swear and are found guilty that they become criminals.

As for one, not all children should be raised by a book of fairy tales. As for two, believing gives you hope, and giving a book that criminals can believe in makes them a bit less likely to do something stupid (but only a bit). Plus, if you're saved in jail, you become passive, thinking that you must save your life by believing.

Well I have to say just because a person did something that the makes them a criminal doesn't mean they are unable to be trusted.
