The westermost point in the "continental" United States is Attu Island in Alaska.
You did say "continental", correct? Alaska is part of North America, as is most of the United States.
The westernmost point in the "contiguous" United States is Cape Alava in Washington.

Alaska is the Easternmost, Westernmost, and Northernmost of all the states.
The reason that it is Easternmost is because the tail of the Aleution Islands is on the other side of the International Date Line.
The new day begins at the tip of the islands, and ends a few inches from where it started.

The Western-maximum, eastern-maximum and northern-maximum factors interior the US are ALL in Alaska! And the Southernmost element is in Hawaii (And for any Texans examining this that think of Texas is significant? in case you decrease Alaska in a million/2 and made it 2 states, Texas may be the 0.33-best state interior the Union!)
