It sounds like the scanner and the PC are just not communicating. You may need to uninstall the scanner and reinstall the software or you may have to check for driver updates for your particular model.

To uninstall software (words in caps are the names of the what you are looking for):
START button
CONTROL PANEL
ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS file
Search for the software for your scanner
CHANGE/REMOVE option

To reinstall software:
Put in disk and follow the installation wizard.

Good luck!

try these steps:
1.) reseat the connections. then go to start\control panel\printers and faxes, or goto device mgr. check if the scanner is detected. if not detected check power connections. if scanner gets power and is still not detected then the issue is with the cable connecting the pc and scanner ( USB ideally) .
2.) uninstall and reinstall the drivers. to do this, insert cd and select uninstall drivers. then after that, reinstall the drivers by reinserting the cd and selecting the install drivers option. this should get you through.
3.) call the vendor. could be a faulty hardware problem
All the very best.

Try on these steps. I believe that you will able to use your scanner immediately!
1. uninstall the driver (example: go to start -> programs -> the scanner's software -> choose uninstall)
2. unplug the usb line
3. restart your computer
4. install the driver (just put the driver cd that come with scanner then follow the autorun menu)
5. plug the usb line from your computer to the scanner
6. done!
