Lots of people support it, lots of people don't. What no one seems to realize is that we already have socialized health care. We all pay into a system, and then benefits are handed out on an as needed basis.
The only catch is, that instead of the government socializing it, theinsurance companies have. This creates two major problems:
10 Insurance companies are "for profit" whereas a government is not. Therefore, in addition to having to let Doctors and hospitals profit from their efforts, we have to also pay the administrative costs of the insurance companies AND THEIR profit.
The second problem is that with the Insurance companies socializing medicine, the rich don't pay (because they selfinsure) and the poor don't get any insurance because they can't affor to participate.
The ntoion of government socialization is one I do not like, but I believe we have reached the point where our choice is to let theinsurance companies continue to socialize our health care, and squeeze a profit out at the same time; or eliminate the profit side of the socialization process, have the government socialize it instead of the insurance companies, and expand the access to include the poor. Said another way, eliminate the insurance companies, use those profit dollars to pay for the poor being allowed into the program.....
Sad to say, the only pockets in the world deep enough to wrest the control of our health care from the insurance companies is the government.

YES, I definitely support universal health care! Apart from the fact that it just makes sense for everyone to have access to it, I have more personal reasons. Last year, we found out that my dad had a brain tumour and needed immediate neurosurgery. While he was recovering from that, and still VERY sick, we found out that my mum had a rare form of leukemia. Both of my parents came within an inch of death, and we could never in a million years have afforded the treatment they needed, were it not for Canada's health care system. If they had not received such a high quality of care, they would have died. As it is, both have made a full recovery. You can NEVER tell me that universal health care doesn't work! (sorry about the rant. moving on...)
I think that if it were ever adopted in the states, it would work just fine, so long as it had proper funding. However, I'm sorry, but the US will never adopt universal health care. There is a huge stigma surrounding left-wing ideals, and that concept seems to be akin to communism in a lot of people's minds.

It's a Socialist shell game, it will collapse and everyone will get second-rate healthcare just like the UK and Canada.
Healthcare is available to anyone in the USA that needs it. Every county in this country has a system to care for the poor. Oh, you may have to sit in the chairs for four hours, but being poor has it's disadvantages.
Healthcare is NOT A RIGHT. It is a privledge that someone pays for. Being poor sucks..... It's supposed to suck.

I don't want an universal heath care system. I pay more to see specialists without going through a referral system. Also, a universal health care system will increase taxes. Canada's tax rate is 50%!

yes yes yes
anything would be better than what we have now... what a mess..... the entire thing should be overhauled. There are so many people in this country that truly can not afford basic healthcare...can't see a dentist... have to choose between their pills and food. I have a prescription that costs 1600$...absurd.
Other countries manage to do it...no reason why we can't.

Nope...name a gov't program that isn't broken....if it ain't broken don't let the gov't try to fix it.
Lets put it this way.....If Bill Clinton lived in Canada when he had his heart problem.....he would have died long before he would have gotten to see a specialist....the system just doesn't work the way it is supposed to.
