Right. Of course. What better way to get support for an unpopular war than to force college students who don't want to be in the military to fight.
You're absolutely right. The idea that only those who choose to be in the military should fight is ridiculous. It's not as if the concept of a volunteer military is based on any sort of freedom to choose. And it's not like anyone would really object to being ordered, under penalty of jail time, to leave their home and travel halfway around to world to risk getting killed for no valid reason.
We have proof, back from the Vietnam era, of how much the draft opens up political participation. And it's not like forcing people to fight in an unpopular war has ever caused problems before. Certainly, very few people would remain politically neutral, if they or their family members were being forcibly sent overseas.
You're absolutely right. Reinstate the draft. And let's all watch what happens.

Hell no...I served....I know I wouldn't want to serve with half the people who answer on here....a bunch of winey, arrogant, jackasses who would cry home the first day in the service.
As far as George Bush's daughters....last time I checked women don't have to sign up for the selective service....which in today's world is bullshit.
I think it should be mandatory that you serve your country in some aspect for 2 years after high school though...doesn't have to be military...could be peace corps or something like that.

In the 60's people were ready to fight back and that generation were not gullible as the present one. Besides, our Canadian government back then didn't have this habit our current Prime Minister has of bending his kness to the White House cowboy, and thus conscience objectors who fled were welcomed here. Look at the countries with military draft. Would you like your US to be like them?

No! Perhaps temporarily. Look at this Iraq farce.Would politicians be as quick to run to war if their children and other family members were the first on the front lines??? How about making that mandatory for any war. Peace.

i grew to become into in the U. S. Air stress from 2000 to 2005, and jointly as i grew to become into in the service they had to launch 18,000 contributors from the service as a results of fact, as they claimed, the Air stress grew to become into over-manned. I did locate it amazing that my activity as an plane maintainer went from being under-manned to over-manned in a three month era, and that i in my opinion have faith they released this many people as a results of fact they only could not handle to pay for to pay them. despite if protection stress service is a great way for an 18 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous to get greater existence and international journey earlier going to varsity or an after severe college jobs, there is unquestionably no way the yank government ought to handle to pay for to fund a draft. the protection stress funds is already greater advantageous than maximum different international locations blended, there is in simple terms no want for yet another enhance. the money it would value to instate a draft must be used for many of alternative greater significant issues, like saving lives somewhat of taking them.

No, we should have a professional all-volunteer military of patriotic minded individuals who are willing to serve. I admire their patriotism and dedication to serve our country.
The last thing that we need, is another "John Kerry" type, whining about conditions, while other soldiers do their duty.

I am a patriot. I believe in my country, if not all its values. But to reinstate the draft would be to infringe on the same basic constitutional right it infringed on the first time. FREEDOM OF CHOICE

Those who want the draft step forward, go directly to Iraq, leave the rest of us alone. Do not collect two hundred dollars and try not to get blown up.

No we shouldn't. There are enough people who sign up voluntarily that want to be in the military. Why should someone who opposes war be required to fight a war that we have no business in anyway??

sure, when we have a say whether or not to go to war. If you did that with this one, you'd have the same amount of participation, the rest would be conscientous objectors. And with this answer, I'm at level 5. Thanks
