No, and they are not silent. They preach anti-liberalism, anti-gay, anti- this and that. They are tools of W and his right wing Nazi party. Jesus preached forgiveness and equality of you fellow man, but they don't preach that anymore. It's all politics.

I think the division of church and state is EXTREEMEly important and taking the tax exemption away needs to be a top proirity! Then they can preach whatever they want and be as political as they want without being immoral too.

John,
Your question is not very specific. Silent about what? Yes, the churches don't want to rock the boat too much, because they are raking in the money big time. However, some of them are not only loud, but embarrassing, giving political advice, and telling their members how to change the political landscape. None of which falls under the categories of being a Disciple of Jesus, or a Child of God

What silence are you talking about? Is there a particular issue?

If they are silent about something, it is because they are tired of the abuse by the media. For instance, if a church says "homosexuality is a sin, but God still loves you, and will forgive you, let us help you change", they will get blasted in the media for hating gays and wanting to kill them all. Would you want to speak up if everything you said was twisted and portrayed as hatred?

Absolutely. When a church voices a political preference, they run the risk of losing their tax-exempt status. This is simply one more attempt of the government to govern in matters of religion. They lost that battle back in the Revolutionary war, but strands still remain to this day.

What do you mean by "silent"? They are incredibly politically active. Review every election season in the USA, all the preachers are either running for office or telling their flocks who to vote for.
