it is possible. The Eclipse hardtops were available from the factory in AWD so all the parts are already made. That being said, if you are not doing the work yourself, then don't do it. It will be tremendously expensive. This will work for second gens only, the third gens were not offered in AWD. I think one person did convert one, but the entire cost of the cars build up was in excess of 75,000 dollars.

If you are going to do it yourself, the best bet would be to buy an awd eclipse, the whole car, then you can switch every part you need. Then the estimated cost would be whatever you buy the car for. Otherwise if you try to piece it together, it will end up being more expensive.

Also, you will need to reinforce the frame of the spyder. A friend of mine had an AWD eclipse in 1996 and launched at 6000 rpm, it twisted the frame so much the passenger door would not open. A cross brace system could be made from steel bars or tubes and welded in underneath the vehicle as well as a unintrussive interior cross brace.

It is possible however the cost of doing it would be far more expensive that buying an AWD model. That is like converting a Geo Metro into a sports car... possible yes however not realistic.
