Time is commonly referred to as the fourth dimension. However, this is not completely true; the actual fourth dimension is a dimension orthogonal (perpendicular) to the other dimensions. It is thought of as time because this is a much simpler way to think about it.

As you hinted, there is also a fifth dimension. This is an even more complicated issue because no one can agree upon exactly what it is. It is commonly speculated that this fifth dimension is either the movement of the graviton or the spacetime fabric. This dimension is as of now only hypothetical.

Along with this idea there are actually more than 5 dimensions; there are actually an unknown number because this is far beyond modern physics.

time

We live in a world of three dimensions. Well, we only perceive three dimensions. We can hypothesize many more dimensions. But, they are difficult to imagine.

Because of Einstein, we often call time the fourth dimension. Special relativity shows that time behaves surprisingly like the three spatial dimensions. The Lorenz equations show this. Length contracts as speed increases. Time expands as speed increases.

Scientists have been graphing time, as if it were a length, for hundreds of years. To the left is a typical graph, showing two things in motion at the same speed, one to the left and one to the right. Time never behaves exactly like a spatial dimension. You cannot go backward in time. And you normally cannot go forward at different rates. But, there are surprising parallels. For some purposes, it is handy to call time a fourth dimension. For other purposes, it is not.

Time definitely is the fourth dimension. In our 3-dimensional world, you can describe the position of any object "j" as a function (f) of the 3 dimensional measures ( in simple language; length(x), width(y), and height(z)) and time. Mathematically:
Position of j = f( x, y, z, t )

dimensions of a quantity are related to the number of independent variables it depends on .a variable quantity can depend on more than three dim. like motion of a particle is uniquely determined by it's three position co- ordinates and time. it's just a matter of chance that we say time as the fourth dimension.

Time is the 4th dimension. The other 7 are quantum level dimensions, are extremely small, and curved.

there are infinite spatial dimensions, but for everyday purposes only 3 are discernable. the "fourth" is time.

hi the day in the previous at present,..relatively the 1st length is "length'" The 2d length is "section" The third length is "volume" & the 4th length is "Time"...because of the fact. what can take place interior the 1st , 2d, & third dimensions is ruled be time,.which includes, No 2 ,,3 dimensional, actual merchandise, can occupy an analogous area, on an analogous time,..i might think of, that the 5th length might desire to have something to do with stepping "outdoors", of time,..yet i will no longer be able to declare for particular,..i'm hoping that this has been helpfull.
